Tapiwa holds a PhD in Sociology which was awarded by the University of Johannesburg in 2011 and is also a holder of a Certificate of Competence in Research Ethics which was awarded by the Steve Biko Bioethics Unit at the University of Witwatersrand in 2019.

He is the past chairperson of the Faculty of Humanities Research Ethics Committee, (February 2019-June 2022). Tapiwa is currently the Head of the Centre for Data Ethics, under the Institute for Artificial Intelligent Systems (IAIS) at the University of Johannesburg.

In addition to his keen interest in data and research ethics, Tapiwa is also a highly passionate Teacher, who won the 2020 Faculty of Humanities Innovation in Teaching and Learning Award. His latest publication is a 2024 Special Journal Issue Published by The Thinker titled: ‘Envisioning an African Future in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Emerging Technologies’, which he Guest Edited.

Rianné is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and Compliance Professional (SA). During
her 27-year career in banking she filled various senior management roles in
business, finance, risk management, internal audit and compliance.
She ran her own compliance consulting firm for 8 years before being appointed
as the CEO of the Compliance Institute Southern Africa in July 2018. She is also
the Chair of the International Federation of Compliance Associations (IFCA).
She is passionate about compliance and ensuring that the compliance
profession is positioned as a strategic business partner, an independent
assurance provider and what it means to be the ‘C’ in GRC.
She became a Chartered Accountant at the age of 41 and lives by her personal motto ‘It is never too late to have a happy childhood (or a new career).

Senior Compliance Specialist with over 7 years of experience in regulatory compliance, risk management, and legal advisory roles within the banking and insurance sectors, with a Bachelor of Commerce in Law completed through UNISA in 2021. Proven track record in implementing compliance programs, managing internal audits, and developing compliance tools. Adept at stakeholder engagement and regulatory reporting.

Tebogo Mapaila is an experienced Compliance Professional and a member of the Young Professional Steering Committee at the Compliance Institute. He has extensive experience in Compliance, Risk and Resilience within the Financial Services sector, including Hedge Funds, CIS, Stock Exchange, Insurance, and Banking. With a strong understanding of regulatory environments, he is dedicated to promoting organisational integrity and managing risks. Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Tebogo is committed to leveraging AI to enhance Compliance strategies and drive innovation.

A Compliance Practitioner (SA) (CPrac (SA)) and ICCP (IFCA) with a decade of professional experience of which 7 were in compliance, risk management, and internal audit across diverse sectors including finance, insurance, civil aviation, and FMCG. I am a holder of a Bachelor of Commerce in Law ( Cum Laud e); a Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Financial Management ( Cum Laude ), a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal and Compliance Management ( Cum Laude ), and various short courses in Compliance, AML, Board Governance, and Risk Management from the University of Johannesburg.
